Yogadrashata- The visionary, a short film on a big personality.

‘Yugadrashta - The Visionary’, directed & written by Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, is a short feature film based on the true story of the life and times of Pitambar Deva Goswami (1885-1962).Presented in short feature format, the story of Pitambar Deva Goswami is of a real man – a messiah of a very interesting part of history of Assam and India. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika termed his as the Sankaradeva of the 20th century.Portraying only a miniscule part of the mosaic of the life of an extraordinary personality, Yugadrashta - The Visionary also attempts at presentation of the authentic heritage of Assam in general and Majuli in particular. It is also a humble effort to package the Sankardeva tradition, the confluence of tribes, a peep into a very interesting period of the freedom struggle in Assam and above all, the ideals of humanism.

Hiya Diba Kak & Commercialization of Assamese Cinema

Review of Hiya Diba Kak, A new Assamese Cinema:
Hiya Diba Kak is second film by Rajiv Bora, who directed 'Tumar Babe' before. But unlike the poor quality of the first flick, this time Bora comes with some promises for future and a good story. Popular actor Jatin Bora and Angoorlota are playing the lead pair while senior artist like Abdul Mazid, Nipon Goswami, Biju Phukan, Atul Pachani, Rina Bora, Nikumoni Bora, Arun Hazarika, Lipika Bora Medhi are also in the cast. Bhranti Medhi, Pol Phukan, Arup Baishya are playing other characters. The positive aspects of this film are its story, music and acting. Music is by Polash Gogoi & Sanchayita. But it's again a poor script that has been a common problem with Assamese Cinema since long.
Apart from the other negative sides, it is note-worthy that 'Hiya Diba Kak' has been made keeping in mind the audience choice & taste. It got every element more or less, that a commercial film should have. So, it can be termed as a good move towards the commercialization of Assamese Cinema rather than go for some award with a art film. Because now we need more audience what Assamese Cinema lacking of.
