Shinyor, Kangkan, Bixakto Suma , Assamese Film Audience etc

Shinyor, the new Assamese film, already has been credited for bringing the audience get back to theater to watch Assamese Film. As i said before, it's not merely a film, but also can be termed as an answer to many questions relating to the Assamese film's future which has been arising since long. Thanks to the director Kangkon Rajkhowa, Producer Sanjive Narain and the entire team for making this happen and make Assam audience feel that regional filmmakers also can think beyond. It's again proud moment for me too as the lyricist of the film and really happy to see people how they appreciating the much-talked song 'Bixakto Suma'. Music director Anuraag, Singers Neer & Gorisha really did extremely well with the song and also with the entire music of the film. But again i have no hesitation to say that 'Shinyor' is not a extra-ordinary or path-breaking movie, but it is a kind of which has been made for the audience keeping in mind the expectations of audience. And fortunately, people have accepted the innovative ideas of the young brigade that started journey with Shinyor and also with lots of promises to bring a change in Assamese Film Industry.

‘Shinyor’, not a Movie; it's an ‘Answer’ actually!!

So, the calendar of Assamese Film in 2014 is all set to start with the ‘Scream’.
Yeah, the title of first Assamese Film going to be released in this New Year is ‘Shinyor’, means scream. The film is releasing today (17th Jan’14) and I had the privilege to attend the premier show held yesterday at Gold Cinema at Paltan Bazar, Guwahati. Now before saying anything about the film and find out the ‘good’ or ‘bad’s, I would like tell you all something that I feel when watching it with my colleague and some senior cine-journalists. For me, ‘Shinyor’ is not merely a movie, it’s an answer. And it’s really a strong one.
It’s an answer to the questions which have been rising since long.
The question may be whether new Assamese Filmmakers can ever think beyond the imaginary boundary they have created for themselves in making an ‘assamese film’. Or it may be the question of whether regional filmmakers would concentrate on commercial aspect rather than going for a foreign award or something else like getting the filmmaker tag behind his or her name. And last, but not the least, the new flick is also can be termed as the answer to those who have been blaming assamese film for not getting balanced with the pace of time and ignorance towards the desires of audience. The most important thing, this answer is by a young brigade of artists having both the dream and ability to do something new what can be widely acceptable. So, like every other member of the crew, I too feel very glad to be a part of this journey as it really carries a lots of hope and makes the expectations higher.

A ship of dreams and.... the savior :

Kangkan Rajkhowa, my friend, is the director of this film. But rather than saying ‘Shinyor is Kangkan’s Film’, I would like to term ‘Shinyor’ as Kangkan’s dream. It’s his struggle, his dedication and of course his unusual patience that brings Shinyor to silver screen. He started making this film single-handedly with his limited hard-earned money and the help of some friends. But it was not enough to make a film and at a moment he felt like his ship of dreams about to sink. Thankfully Sanjive Narain, the producer, comes up and shoulders all the responsibility to bringing Shinyor to big screen. He is the man who showed trust on the dreams and courage of this young and undoubtedly talented brigade and as a result, Shinyor is releasing today all over Assam. So, a big thank to Sanjive Narain for making this happen amidst all your projects and I really appreciate for taking the brave decision of releasing the film just one week before the release date of Salman Khan’s film. I agree, if our film works and loved by the people, nobody can put it down from theatre. Not even Salman Khan!

The Film & Musical Extravaganza:

I think I would not be biased if I say ‘Shinyor’ is the most commercial and youth-oriented Assamese film I have watched ever. The best part of the film is that though it tells a serious and totally relevant story but in a manner the audience wants to watch it. There is always been a risk factor while the filmmaker deals with a bold topic which usually been kept under cover and has not been talked much. But it is good to see that Kangkan Rajkhowa not only taken the risk but also has done justice to it. Not going by the thought of making an ‘Assamese Cinema’, he tries to go beyond with the thought of ‘Cinema’ only, which should have global appeal and relevance. Apart from direction, Pradip Daimary’s cinematography is really superb. All the casts including Priyashree Kashyap ( The new talk of town), noted actor Bhagirathi, very talented Pranami Bora, Gyanendra Pallav,Amitabh Rajkhowa, Jharna, Achinta, Parbin, Abhijeet, Vaishali, Tridib all have done splendid job with their respective roles. Bhaskar Sarma's Sound is awesome as always.
& Music? Should I still have something to tell about Shinyor Music? I think not. It is Anuraag Saikia’s music which takes Shinyor to another level. Really great job my bro. Anuraag’s magic, I mean music, would definitely linger in people’s mind for a long time. Usually when we, I and Anuraag, work together and find something very excellent and interesting, we used to say two words to express our satisfaction over it. But now as I can’t say the other word here, so I would like to say Anuraag, only ‘Mojja’ for yours lovely music. Zubeen Garg, Arijit Singh, Neer, Sidd, Gorisha, Bornali all have added colours to the music of the film by their variety of voice. Really glad to be part of the team and for getting the opportunity to write ‘Bixakto Suma’ song for the film. Cheerz to the co-lyricists Ibson Lal Barua, Sameer & Manas.

Shinyor & a word of Munin Barua :

It had happened many times that I found noted filmmaker Munin Barua at doorsteps when I come out from the film premier show and I used to ask him about his opinion. Most of the times he smiles only without saying anything and in some cases he says ‘Thikei Aase Aaru’, means ‘It’s okay’. It could be easily understood the quality of the films in his eyes when he says nothing and only smiles. So, his reaction towards Shinyor was very important for me, especially because I related to it and I already had said enough to him before about the film.
So, after watching the movie when I asked him how it is, I really don’t know what I was expecting. But thankfully he utters a word,‘Borhiyaa’, means excellent, and it was enough!

‘Raag’ portrays the relationships we had not discussed, says Adil Hussain

No doubt, it was amazing, really a great day having lots of good moments and the galaxy of talented people all around and finally ended up with some delicious food.

Everything was good and in perfect mood at the music release of new Assamese film ‘Raag-the rhythm of love’. But after reaching home when I sit and trying to write something on this, I feel some kind of dilemma in my mind. It may be because of the conflict between my being part of the crew of the film and the journalist in me.

So, let the journalist speak first. Here we go:

Amidst the various negativity and down falling of Assamese Cinema Industry, we really glad to see the increasing rate of making regional cinemas in last few years. Specially, the industry is now hoping a lot from the new breed of filmmaker for their innovative thoughts and the ability to come up with new treatments in every aspect from production to distribution to marketing. And this is what Assamese Cinema actually needs in this sensitive phase when all of us are in doubt regarding the future of Assamese cinema. But still we are trying hard to be optimistic as we have some hopes too. And yeah, debutant director Rajni Basumatary’s ‘Raag’ is one of those hopes to get Assamese Cinema closer to the audience.
The music of this much-hyped new Assamese film ‘Raag’ has been launched today (15th Jan, 2014) at Hotel Gateway Grandeur at Guwahati by two leading filmmaker of the region Munin Barua and Bidyut Chakrabarty. On this occasion Adil Hussain, the noted actor and the male protagonist ‘Raag’, says, this new movie for him is like coming back to home. The actor, who started his journey from stage, also maintained that ‘Raag’ is a kind of movie that deals with the relationship, especially those neither we had discussed before, nor did our parents or the past generation feel the need of discussing it. For him, this things which were not discussed openly, expresses later through different activities like violence, frustration etc. He also appreciates the soulful music which added more colours to the movie.

Some of other cast n crews including the female protagonist Zerifa wahid, Kopil Bora, Co-producer Shirish Jain (Manna Films) , Popular singer Anindita Paul, Dikshu, Pragyan Baruah, Murchana Borkakati, Music director Avinash Waghel, Editor Rupam Kalita, Assistant director Anupam and the guests including deputy commissioner of Kamrup Ashutosh Agnihotri, managing director of Prag Channel Sanjive Narain were graced the occasion by their presence. Anindita performed one of her song in the movie ‘Tup Tup Xore Endhaar’ and enthralled all the people gathered there by her magical and soulful voice. Rajni Basumatary, the captain of the ship ‘Raag’, expresses how this movie came up on the floor which had been scripted seven years before. She thanked Assam Film (Finance and Development) Corporation for trusting her & her story and for the decision of producing the film. Swapnanil Barua, from Assam Cultural Affairs dept. and Nazreen Ahmed,Managing Director of Assam Film Finance & Development Corporation were also present on this music release occasion.

Now, something from heart of a crew member:

Last, but not the least, personally it was very special occasion for me as well. After ‘Rowd’ n ‘Shinyor’, it was my third movie as lyricist. Felt very happy to get the opportunity to work with this team of Raag and now I am much happier to see the way my two songs ‘Akou Ebaar’ & ‘Tup Tup’ come out. Hope people will like both of the songs as they appreciated ‘Pokhi Pokhi Mon mur’ (Rowd 2012) & ‘Bixakto Suma’ (Shinyor 2013). The other songs of the movie, written by Sarat Borkakati, are also very heart-touching and I am sure people will find something new in every song of the movie. Lastly, a big thank to all the cast and crew of Raag , especially Rajni Basumatary, one of the most sincere and dedicated human being I have met. Thanks Rajni ba for making this happen and a big hug to Avinash, Anindita ba & my friend Dikshu.

The Bottom line:

Undoubtedly, the music & also the film Raag is not one of those traditional Assamese films. From the story to treatment to music, it carries a different taste. So, when we all have been talking for long about change, innovation and all, ‘Raag’ could be a good example of this change.
On this music release, noted and one of the most successful filmmaker of the region Munin Barua rightly says, we need to think according to the audience. He also pointed out the in-appropriate show timings of Assamese Movies provided by Cinema halls.
Anyway, Raag releasing on coming 7th Feb.
See you all in theatre..to experience the change of course..!!
